Why Support the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) supports the College’s mission by promoting learning in an environment where inquiry, critical thinking, and exploration are valued and expected. We do so via two foundational ideals that comprise our programmatic paradigm:
- Collaborate with members of the Grinnell College community to position them to make powerful decisions about their future by providing information and sustainable strategies regarding self-reflection, active listening, and transformation work; providing opportunities to practice and engage with learning in both individual and group settings; and assessing and re-assessing learning to reinforce ongoing learning as decisions are made.
- Create an environment where people can be 100% their authentic selves 100% of the time across identities intersectionally.
We see these central tenets as a path to liberation of all constituents who belong to the Grinnell College community. These can be applied to work completed by individuals and groups in alignment with the values expressed in the College’s mission and vision statement, as well as the four domains that emerged from participant responses in the ongoing strategic planning process.
Gifts directed to ODEI will allow us to create additional programming and resources for our students, and build upon our goal of creating a stronger community for all.
